Haptic Explorer

Currently touch devices don't provide haptic feedback. With Haptic Explorer we want to solve this problem. This device allows us to create haptic impressions. With this feedback we can study different interaction patterns.

Haptic Explorer

The project considers the problem of missing haptic feedback on current touchdevices. Today many Systems in our everyday live use a touchscreen and there are more to come. However the usage of Touchdevices is only possible with the help of visual sensation. Situations which require concentration on more important tasks, the user is not able to succesfully perform actions at the device. For an example, while driving a car it would be dangerous to change the settings of a navigationsystem. With the help of using haptic elements, the problem wouldn't exist. So our main focus in fact was to create haptic impressions and beeing able to study haptic systems.

Starting with recherche in biological aspects of the human feeling, we then headed over to try and study different methods to create a sensual perception. After building several important Prototypes with different systems, we decided to use the auditive virbration. This made possible, to design several feelings with the help of parameters like amplitude and frequency. In the end using HTML, CSS and Javascript, we created an interface to test different situations within the system. People at exhibitions were impressed by the possibility to test our prototype and instantly recieving a haptic feedback.

The Project was exhibited at Push.Conference 2014.
